• Some problems in the comparative study of Carib societies. Atti del XL Congresso Internazionale degli Americanisti (Roma-Genova 3-10 settembre 1972, Genova 1974, vol. II, pp. 639-643.

"I wish to claim that it is possible to talk about individual Carib societies as subcultures of a general Carib culture, and that this is so because all Carib societies exhibit certain fundamental principles as an invariant core, and this permits each subculture to be seen and understood as a transformation of other subcultures. This is the variation-on-a-theme approach to comparative studies" (p. 639). Esses princípios fundamentais, encontrados ao nível da organização social, são discutidos pelo autor.
